Client information — financial, personal and commercial — is treated as confidential by default. Confidentiality is a working discipline maintained at every stage of the engagement.
Client information is discussed only with the client, unless the client has provided explicit written instruction to share information with a specified third party, or unless disclosure is required by law.
Client records are stored using appropriate technical safeguards, including access controls and encrypted transmission for sensitive documents. Access is limited to what is required to deliver the agreed services.
Where cloud-based bookkeeping platforms or secure document exchange tools are used, providers are selected with client confidentiality in mind and access is restricted to what the service reasonably requires.
Following the end of an engagement, records are retained for the periods required by UK law. On written request, copies of client-owned records will be returned in a reasonable format.
